Robbie Keeleghan Navan O'Mahony's
O'Mahonys: 3-07
Skryne: 0-10

Robbie Keeleghan's two first half goals proved to be the difference between the sides as O'Mahonys overcame Skryne by six points in the opening round of the Teach na Teamhrach played in Pairc Tailteann on Sunday afternoon. Having played against the wind in the first half, O'Mahonys gained a scoring advantage in the first quarter which they never surrendered.

The sides were relatively evenly matched throughout the match. Skryne opened the scoring with a third minute free before Robbie Keelaghan responded with his first goal five minutes in. Keelaghan quickly raised a white flag to give the town side a three point advantage.

Three Skryne points in the next three minutes drew the sides level for the first and only time. Cormac Reilly responded with a point to put O'Mahonys a point to the good after 11 minutes and O'Mahonys led from this point onwards.

Stephen Monaghan and Gerard Murray played their part in moving the play forward from the midfield area before James O'Malley carried the ball into the Skryne defence and then found Keelaghan who blasted it to the back of the net for the second time in the opening quarter.

The Tara side responded with an immediate attack which looked certain to find the net but for a superb save from O'Mahonys net minder David Quirke. The remainder of the half saw Skryne outscore O'Mahonys by 0-3 to 0-1 with Dylan Regan getting O'Mahonys only score of the second quarter.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, O'Mahonys drove forward with Ross Geraghty and David Dillon putting the ball over the black spot in the early stages before Skryne responded with two of their own to reduce the deficit back to two points. Two further Keelaghan points in the 12th and 13th minute once again saw O'Mahonys lead by four. Alan Forde raised the green flag in the 20th minute in what was to be O'Mahonys last score of the game.

A quiet final ten minutes saw one final point from Skryne but O'Mahonys held on to secure a six point victory.

Best for O'Mahonys were Keelaghan, O'Malley, Reilly and Damian Moran.
