October 10, 2019

Kilmainham's Dylan Morgan

Kilmainham/Drumbaragh 2-19 Moynalty 1-12

Cortown hosted this opening round of the U21 B FC.

Following a rain-soaked Saturday there were questions whether the pitch would be playable, but the Cortown club had the grounds in top condition for the match. 2018 seen joint managers Ger Morgan and Damien Carry lead Kilmainham/Drumbaragh to u21 success and 2019 sees the partnership returned to their roles with some clear intentions set down with this fine performance.

The game started out at lightening pace for the Kells parish side with them sprinting to an 8pts to 1pt lead. Moynalty were unable to get to grips with the fast pace in the opening stages. Scores from Declan Mullen, Stephen Meegan and some fine scores from Dylan Morgan giving Kilmainham/Drumbaragh the lead, and it would be Morgan who would be a torn in the side of Moynalty by the end.

Moynalty got back into the game with some sloppy play from Kilmainham/Drumbaragh and Moynalty punished the mistakes, scoring 5 points on the trot. Morgan would point twice more before half time to leave the scoreline 0-10 to 0-06 at the break.

The second half would be a hotly contested encounter, and the level of football and scoring was a delight to see. Mc Cormack of Moynalty set the tone early on with an early goal to let Kilmainham/Drumbaragh know they would not be going anywhere without a fight. Some great tackling and hard hitting gave way to a tough and exciting second half display of football from both sides. Ultimately Kilmainham/Drumbaragh would pull away with scores from Larry Morgan, Kyle Dardis and the outstanding Dylan Morgan. Goals from Morgan and Dardis put the game to bed and out of the reach of Moynalty. Mc Cormack of Moynalty who would end the game with a staggering 1-09, but only to be outdone by Dylan Morgan who gave a masterclass and would end the match with a total of 1-14. Overall a fine team display and strong work rate throughout would see Kilmainham/Drumbaragh come away with a deserved 10 point win.

Best for Kilmainham/Drumbaragh were Dylan Morgan, Nathan Kiernan, Jamie Carry and Larry Morgan.

Kilmainham/Drumbaragh scorers: Dylan Morgan 1-14, Kyle Dardis 1-0, Stephen Meegan 0-01, Larry Morgan 0-01, Declan Mullen 0-01, Michael McNamee 0-01, Conor Lynch 0-01.
