Trim celebrate after their win over Oldcastle in the Division 2 Shield final at Lomans Park

Trim 5-6 Oldcastle 2-4

The Trim U14 Boys beat Oldcastle in the Div 2 Shield Final in Trim on a scoreline of 5-6 to 2-4 in what was a very entertaining and competitive game.

Trim started the game well winning some tough duels in midfield under very slippery conditions, working the ball well through the lines and finding space in wide areas. This early possession was capitalised on with some good scores from Luke Carolan (1-0) and Tadgh Carty (0-2). Oldcastle responded well and took advantage of some wayward shooting from Trim to close the gap by scoring a goal and a point in quick succession.

This jolted Trim into life and following a smart move down the Trim left Darragh Heffernan beat his marker and found the net. Oldcastle again responded with a fine goal after a great break and interchange from midfield. The game continued to be fiercely contested as is befitting of a final and Trim finished on a high with another goal and a point from Luke Carolan and a point from Darragh Heffernan. The teams went in for a much deserved break at half tiime with Trim leading 3:4 to 2:2 .

The second half continued as the first ended with every ball fiercely contested and with a slight wind advantage Oldcastle got the scoring underway with a fine run and point. Trim responded well with another point from Tadgh Carty before Darragh Heffernan got his 2nd and Trim's forth goal of the night. Trim midfield had at this point begun to take control and another Trim goal was scored after persistence from Full Forward, Sean Murray. Oldcastle responded well and only a smart save from Eoin O'Reilly in the Trim Goal  prevented a goal, this effort was followed up by Oldcastle who then went on to hit the post and score a point in a five minute spell of pressure. Trim responded well and ensured the home supporters nerves were calmed with  a fine run and finish from Mark Brennan to leave them worthy winners of the Div 2 Shield in what was a very entertaining and competitive final.

Trim Scorers: Darragh Heffernan 2-1, Luke Carolan 2-1, Tadgh Carty 0-3, Sean Murray 1-0 and Mark Brennan 0-1).
