HL Div 4A: Title for Trim

Trim 7-16 Ratoath 0-10

Trim beat Ratoath in the Division 4A league final played in Dunshaughlin on Saturday evening. Trim hurled brilliantly  in every sector of the field,man to man Trim outplayed their opponents  time and time again. The winning margin of twenty seven points was a true reflection of the total dominance of the team in Red & White  during the sixty minutes. 

Cian Walsh set the Trim stall out with a brilliant goal in the third minute. The Trim youngster who was playing out of position in the full forward line blasted an unstoppable shot past the Ratoath keeper. This goal set the tone of the match and soon after Cieran Joyce hit his first score a lovely point from an acute angle . Joyce was winning everything in the final third of the pitch, making great runs which James Andrews and Mark Murray finding Joyce with great ball. Mikey Cullen also operating in the full forward line Was a constant thorn in the Ratoath  defense and won a lot of ball. Joyce hit Trims second goal in the twelfth minute which but the reds into a six point lead. James Andrews added to this lead with a brace of points. Ratoath has just one score on the board at this time . The Ratoath forwards were been marshaled very well by the Trim rear guard who thwarted attack after attack. Darragh Kennedy, Colm McGrath , Jack Cotterll , Cian Lee, Ben Holden and Declan Dowling were outstanding threw out the match. Joyce added another goal and a point with three more points from Andrews in the number nine shirt. Trim were crushing at half time and lead by nine points.

The second half started as the first half finished with the Reds powering forward from the throw in and Tommy Farrell had the ball in the Ratoath net after 22 seconds . This goal was followed with Points from the energetic Patrick Quigley, the outstanding   Declan Dowling  and the unmarkable Mikey Cullen. Just after Cullens point Trim  scored a brilliant team goal which started with the young center back Cian Lee who hit a lovely pass to James andrews , Andrews changed direction with a lovely diagonal cross field pass to Tommy Farrell, Farrell took on his man and hand passed to Cullen who beat two men drew Joyce’s man and when this happened Joyce was free and that man Cullen found Joyce who batted the ball to the Ratoath net for The Town sides fifth goal. As they say Game set and match with fifteen minutes to play. Most of the Trim Team attacks started from the half back line , all three half back are under 19 players and have a bright future in the Red Jersey ,Ben Holden , Cian Lee and Jack Cotterll were outstanding during the game and this coupled with the hard work from other youngsters Kevin Lennon and Patrick  Quigley Trim have an abundance of young talent. Mikie cullen then hit the back of the net to give Trim a twenty two point lead with ten to play. Cullen , Farrell, Joyce and Andrews added more points to the Trim tally before sub Jamie Hacket finished the scoring with The Reds seventh goal on the stroke of full time. Ratoath only managed three points in the second half but they were totally out played by a much superior Trim outfit. Trim Manger CJ Murtagh and his Selectors Alan Douglas , Sean Colgan and John Andrews gave the bench a run in the last fifteen minutes. Hackett replaced the stylish Kevin Lennon , Conal Rodgers replaced  the hard working Andrews, Brian Bolger replaced the very effective Farrell, Jamie Lee replaced the never say die Kennedy and Patrick Lennon Replaced the  excellent Walsh. 

There were many many memorable moments during this match from a Trim persecutive , From the 3-3 scored by the evergreen Cieran Joyce to the unorthodox style of the  1-4 from Mikey Cullen , to the brilliant first goal scored by the totally committed Cian Walsh  , not forgetting the undoubted coolness and talent of Cian Lee, to the leadership qualities of Captain James Andrews to the Bustling energetic display from Tommy Farrell to the no cause is lost display at mid field from Mark Murray. The outstanding memory has to be the third clean sheet in as many games from the the newest Trim Hurling Custodian Andy O’Brien. Andy O’Brien took up the position in the first round of the intermediate Championship due to a hand injury to regular keeper Paul Mullen. This was O’Briens third outing in goals for the reds and he has yet to bend his back to pick the ball out of the net. His puck outs are long and accurate , his handling assured , and his reflexes are Cat like. 

Over all this was a superb performance from Trim who on the night were missing due to holidays and injury Stephen Doyle , Paul Mullen, Rory McGrath, Aaron Winters, Johnny McEvoy,
