Masita Cup quarter final.

Full time: St. Michaels 0-09, Oldcastle 1-07,

Half time: St. Michaels 0-07, Oldcastle 1-03.

Oldcastle secured a place in the semi-final of the Masita Cup after taking the lead for the first time with practically the last kick of the ball on Thursday evening in Carlanstown. In what was an entertaining game of football both sides put everything on the line in an effort to take the spoils, but both sides will rue several missed opportunities in front of the posts.

St. Michaels who were short several regulars opened the scoring after 20 seconds with a point from player of the match Sinéad McCormack who posted all but one of the home sides scores. There was no clear pattern to the opening half, it was just end to end football with Marion Farrelly and McCormack covering every blade of grass on the Carlanstown pitch and combining well for several scores to leave their side one point to the good at the interval, 0-7 to 1-3.

With both sides practically spun out, the third quarter passed without either side raising a flag until Marion Farrelly broke the deadlock. Oldcastle quickly followed with their opening point of the second half and McCormack posted what was to be her sides last score of the match on 48 minutes to keep her side in front. Oldcastle then tagged on a couple of minors to level the match with five minutes remaining and despite some brave defending from Marita Rogers, Áine Sheridan, Hayley Doyle and Laura Halpin Oldcastle still managed to break through for the winning score with a minute of normal time remaining.
