FL Div 3: Second win for St. Ultans

March 19, 2019

St. Ultans Mark Allen

St Ultans 4-15 Moynalty 1-12

St Ultans came away with both points after a twelve point victory against Moynalty on St Patricks morning. The game was played in Grangegodden and despite the pitch being in great condition the wind was a huge factor.

Ultans had the advantage of the wind in the first half and started brightly with a brace from Ronan Breslin one from a free and a fine effort from play. Moynalty adjusted well to the conditions and scored a goal and a point on the counter attack in the 5th and 6th minute. Ultans played well for the remainder of the half with a further eights points, Mark Allen kicked 5 from play and a further two points from Breslin and a well taken score from Darren Kavanagh. However the key score of the game was when Gearoid Rennicks finished low to the net in 30th minute. This left five between the sides at the break.

Ultans reacted well to playing against the wind in the second half and Emmet Costello fisted the ball over for the opening score of the 2nd half. Efforts from Mark Allen and Darren Kavanagh cancelled out two Moynalty frees and Mark Allen put the game out of reach with a goal after a strong run from Martin Dolan.. Moynalty responded with points either side a Gearoid Rennicks free. Midfielder Cian McBride scored a fine goal with five minutes remaining. The scoring was rounded off with a well struck penalty from Darren Kavanagh and a free from distance from Mark Allen to cap a fine individual and team performance.
