HL Div 3: Gaeil Colmcille hold on to defeat Kildalkey

March 18, 2019

Kildalkey's Luke Rickard

Gaeil Colmcille 2-13 Kildalkey 1-12

Despite the heavy overnight rain this Division 1 round 3 fixture went ahead after being switched from Kildalkey to Grangegodden because of flooding on the Kildalkey pitch.

Kildalkey were without some of their more experienced players for this game but had plenty of lads willing to fill in for them all eager for a game.

The Kells men played with the wind in the first half and led at half time by 0-7 to 0-6 the Kildalkey scores coming from Arron Byas Niall McNally Francis Doran (2) Conor Kearney and Luke Rickard.

But after a heavy shower the wind died and it was Kells again who looked the sharper and cut in for a few quick scores to stretch their lead to 0-11 to 0-7 and then got in for a soft goal to put them in the driving seat.

Kildalkey rallied and points from Kearney with 2 frees and Luke Rickard with 3 booming efforts and a Francy Doran goal closed the gap but Kells held on for the win by 4 points 2-13 to 1-12 and the two points.
