Ballinlough remember Ricky McDermott

March 14, 2019

The late Ricky McDermott during the 2012 MFC Division 3 final

The wind was howling and the rain was falling, but a large group of hardy souls came together in Ballinlough last night to remember a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a team-mate, and a friend.

Ricky McDermott was to the forefront of all the minds of those present on what would have been his 23rd birthday. He was one of the brightest prospects for Ballinlough GFC before his life was tragically cut short on Easter weekend six years ago.

His many friends and family came together to spread a little bit of light and a lot of love into the darkness as they walked around the track in the park in his memory.

As long as people speak his name he will never be forgotten and with all the lives Ricky touched in his young life it’s a certainty that he will always be remembered with love and kindness.

As the plaque on the club room wall says “He died as he lived... Everyone’s Friend” Rest In Peace Ricky.
