B FL Div 2: Long journey proves fruitful for Na Fianna

Na Fianna: 4-14  St Michael’s: 2-11

Na Fianna made the trip to Carlanstown on Thursday night and collected the points in this first round clash in the BFL Division 2.

Na Fianna made a poor start, with the home side finding themselves ahead 1-04 to 0-1 midway through the first half.

Na Fianna managed to regroup with two well taken Jack McNally points while Jamie Queeney finished well to the net for a goal.

Against a strong wind, Na Fianna went in at half time 1-08 to 1-07 ahead.

The South Meath side dominated the second half with Mark Slevin blasting two goals high into the net, as did Jonathan McCloskey who hit one goal. Jack McNally, Jamie Queeney, Michael Collins and Glen McDonnell all added points as Na Fianna ran out convincing winners.

Ciaran McDonnell and Ciaran Keogh made the step up from Minor football in 2018 and both gave excellent displays with McDonnell particularly causing havoc in the St Michael’s defence while Glen McDonnell, Jack McNally, Sean Rafferty, Mark Slevin and Sean Coffey also impressed.

BFL Division 2, round 1

St. Michaels 2-11, Na Fianna 4-14       

With the help of Jamie Queeney Na Fianna turned the screw in the fourth quarter to finish comfortable winners over hosts St. Michaels in a windy Carlanstown last evening.                                                                             

St. Michaels got off to a great start with a Ben Farrell converted free in the second minute which was quickly followed with the games opening goal from Paddy Tobin. Ray Reilly added another point from a free before Na Fianna opened their account with a point on seven minutes. Both Reilly and Farrell shared the remaining five points of the half for the home side who trailed by 1-7 to 1-8 at the break have played with a strong wind to their backs.

Na Fianna's opening major came on 20 minutes.                                          

A converted free after the resumption put two between the sides however Ray Reilly pulled one back from a free but this was immediately cancelled out by Na Fianna who began to stamp their authority and added a further 1-2 before the end of the third quarter. Substitute Justin McPhillips banged home a goal for St. Michaels however the visitors were in full flow finishing off the game with a tally of 3-2 for what was a comfortable victory in the end. Harry Dunne and Ray Reilly posted a further two points for St. Michaels who along with the scorers had good performers in Daithi O'Reilly, Ben Tobin and Lee Morris.    .
