Donaghmore Ashbourne's Abbie Timmons

Donaghmore Ashbourne 4-9 Summerhill 2-4

Donaghmore Ashbourne played away to Summerhill on Wednesday evening in the Intermediate Championship.

Summerhill put the first 2 points on the board while Donaghmore took a while to settle themselves into the game. Abbie Timmons (3.05) raised the green flag for the Moors for their opening score. There was some great interplay from the middle of the field from Eva McNelis to forwards Lucy Butler, Aoife Toner (0.1) and Aisling Doherty. Maggie Randall (1.01)and Sophie Geoghegan linked up well with Timmons who delivered the second score win a well taken goal.

The Moores found their feet with the back line putting great pressure on the Summerhill forward line. Claire Mullen (0.1) ended a strong run with a well taken point.  Time and time again the backs forced their opponents to put kicks wide. Michelle Peel and Aine Ni Maeoloid held firm while Aoife O'Rourke was solid . Sara O Connor has gained confidence in goals and showed her skill with some clever distribution of the ball tonight. The pacy Sophia Payne for  Summerhill showed well for them. Aoisle Lawlor did well denying her some certain scores. A well taken point at the other end  from Randall added to the  scoreline. Another 2 points from Timmons and the half time whistle sounded.

Summerhill started the second half brighter with two points. A pacy run from Michelle Peel found Timmons who pointed for the visitors. Clever running up the wings by Emma McCarney found the forward line. Kate Heffernan for Mullen brought fresh legs to the midfield. Heffernan harried well. A foul on the persistent young forward Butler led to a free which was converted by Timmons. Grainne Field showed well on her welcome  return to club football.

Hannah Keogh came of age as a senior footballer tonight with a solid display. Marie Heffernan for Lawlor displayed her tenacious defending. Summerhill added another couple of points, the Don Ash defence ushering them wide on a number of occasions. Toner after a lot of work got a well deserved point.

Roisin Williams for Doherty hit a lovely point from her first touch of the ball. Timmons hit another goal and a couple of well taken long range points. A goal for Meath Camogie star Randall added to a solid display all round the field for the Don Ash women. A good night's football for all concerned, managers Tom O'Connor, Sean Butler, Mary OShaughnessey and Una McNelis must be happy with the progress of their charges thus far.

Donaghmore Ashbourne  would like to wish the very best of luck to our County players, Maire, Aoibhin, Siofra , Judy and all of the Meath Ladies in their quest for All Ireland Glory.
