U19 Div 1 semi final: Heavy defeat for Tones

July 13, 2018

Aaron Tolan Wolfe Tones

Bhulf Tón 1-6 St Peters Dunboyne 5-13 on Wed 11th July 2018 in Dunboyne

St Peters were, as the score line suggests, comfortable winners on the night but the exchanges were more competitive than the score line suggests.

Although the home side dominated exchanges early on they failed to convert this dominance into scores thanks to a number of fine saves from Tones keeper Darragh Kenny and resolute defending by a compact defence. Tones trailed at half time 0-4 to 1-8 but could have been closer had they managed to convert a couple of goal chances.

However this work was undone in the opening minutes of the second half which saw St Peters add 2-1 and virtually finish the game as a contest. The first goal came straight from the throw in and was a body blow to the Tones men. However the visitors playing with typical spirit maintained their efforts to the final whistle. The Tones second half scores came from Oisín Corrigan (a long range free) and a goal and a point from Sarán O Fionnagáin.
