Ladies FL Division 1

St. Michaels 3-07 Dunboyne 3-19

The St. Michaels ladies travelled to Dunboyne last evening for their second round match in the Division 1 league and they hit the ground running with three points from Seona Lynch (2) and Marion Farrelly (1) in the opening six minutes. The home side pulled two back before the St. Michaels captain Megan O'Brien fired home the opening goal at the end of the first quarter. Farrelly put five points between the sides a minute later, however Dunboyne put in a real burst from the 18th minute to claw back the deficit and go in front when they bagged their opening goal on 26 minutes. Marion Farrelly goaled as the electronic clock on the clubhouse showed a minute remaining in the opening half, but there was still enough time for another Dunboyne point to give them a slender 1-8 to 2-4 interval lead. Farrelly, O'Brien,  McCormack, Alicia Curtis, Seona and Erin Lynch all put in huge efforts in that opening half.

A tally of 1-4 in the opening six minutes of the second half killed off any ambitions the St. Michaels girls had of coming away with anything from this match. The home side possessed some fine individual displays but it was the balance of their side through each line that proved the real difference between the sides. On the other hand St. Michaels strove valiantly all over the pitch especially in defence to contain the opposing attackers, but despite the best efforts of Marita Rogers, Ellen Cassidy and Áine Sheridan they could do little to curtail the pressure being applied. Sinéad McCormack opened her side's second half account with a well placed goal after seven minutes, however the scores for St. Michaels were few and far between for the remainder of the half as O'Brien, McCormack and Seona Lynch each posted a further point apiece as the home side added a further 1-6 to secure victory.

St. Michaels: Clodagh Corcoran; Marita Rogers, Ellen Cassidy, Aine Sheridan; Mary Carpenter, Emma McDonnell, Deirbhile Curran; Clare Halpin,   Sinéad McCormack (1-1); Megan O'Brien (1-1), Erin Lynch, Seona Lynch (0-3), Marian Farrelly (1-2), Shauna Harten, Alicia Curtis. Subs: Rebecca Farrelly for Curran 35 minutes, Anna Farnan for Harten 55 minutes.

Referee: Joe Murray.
