B FL Div 6: Winning start for 'Drums'

February 19, 2018

Drumconrath's Stephan Crosby

Drumconrath 1-9 St Vincents 0-8

A good 3rd quarter display which yielded 1-3 without reply seen Drumconrath secure the points as the constant drizzle ensured lots of errors throughout.

Quickfire points after the change of ends from a Daniel Byrne free, Daniel Myles and Patrick Farrelly pushed Drums 3 points up and when David O'Halloran broke up a St Vincents attack and the ball was transferred to Daniel Byrne,Tomas Conlon, Daniel Myles and back to Farrelly he found the corner of the net to put the home side 6 up with 13 minutes left.

Soon after a top class save from Eoin Muldoon when it appeared a goal was certain, Muldoon deflected the shot out for a fruitless 45.

The 1st half had been even with Byrne pointing twice early on but St Vincents added 4 points to grasp control. Drumconrath drew level through Farrelly and Stephan Crosby only for the visitors to edge ahead again. It looked like they would go in ahead but a late Crosby point had the sides level at 0-5 each at the break.

Drumconrath's good start to 2nd half was vital as with the home side reduced to 14 late on St Vincents plied on the pressure and added 3 points but a late Byrne free from 40m seen Drumconrath hold out.
