Mayo - Team vs Kerry

Where will Keegan play on Sunday and who will miss out from the replay win over Roscommon. Would be very harsh to drop either of the midfielders. Possibly play Keegan midfield and position Seamus O She in front of Donaghy - similar to Barry Morans role against Donegal in 2015. But who do we drop?? I don't think any of the defenders should be dropped. Possibly drop Doherty or Moran - either would be a good impact sub. Shane Nally has also proven himself to be a good option off the bench and should be used before Coen, Boland or possibly Loftus at this stage. For me the starting 15 is the same as the replay with Keegan in for Doherty. 6 subs are Doherty, Nally, Loftus, Crowe, Kirby and Drake to be used as and when necessary

Yeah it was interesting in 2009 when we went the qualifier route but had some close calls with Longford, Sligo and Antrim.

Kerry were similiar to Mayo this year struggling through each round and once a big game in croker came around the shackles were released.

So while it gives us more games I think the super 8s next year will take care of our need for more games,

Anyway we dont want to give them Cork boys any easy titles, try to keep them down for as long as possible.

Yes very hard to pick one to leave out between Doherty and Andy if it comes to that. Andy is so crucial inside, probably still our best forward in open play, but would be a huge impact sub, would be a massive lift to the players and crowd if he was introduced around 45/50 minutes mark. Doherty however has been a huge ball winner in the forward line in recent games, a lot of ball that is being kicked from half back line and midfield is being claimed by him and he's really helping bring us up the pitch. Has been crucial in our transition to attack. Maybe wouldn't provide as much impact off the bench as Andy though.

Would you not have Coen as one of possible subs? Also Crowe is an interesting option, and I'd agree that he should be on the matchday squad (or else Barry Moran) but he has not been on the 26 in last two games, who would you be leaving out? Regan Boland or Dillon? For me Dillon should still be on 26 anyway, if we were trailing by a couple of points I think he could still have something to offer. Can't see Regan or Boland featuring. I'd imagine Rochford will have Coen or Cafferkey ahead of Crowe though.

Its very hard to predict what subs will be needed as this will probably be dictated by the game itself. If Mayo are a few pints up with the clock running down then Dillon might be the man to come on and see it out with his experience. However I don't think he is an option for more than 10 minutes. Cafferkeys confidence couldn't be great now and not sure if he would be a good man to bring on - thats why I think Crowe maybe a better option. Crowe a good ball player and has enough power to deal with most of Kerry forwards. Regan and Coen have been used in most games this year and I think they have used up all their lives at this stage. Regan hasn't added anything and we would possibly have beaten Galway if Dillon was introduced instead of Regan. Coen cost us the drawn game against Roscommon and would have been the cause of us loosing to Cork if the referee had seen him touching the ball on the ground near the end. Boland is somewhat of a forgotten man but may yet add something to this championship. As I said the match itself my dictate what players are used

Team I think will and should start:

Numbers on backs mean nothing I am just going with match ups here and counter attacking players:

1. David Clarke
2. Brendan Harrison v Paul Geaney
3. Donal Vaughan v Kieran Donaghy
4. Chris Barrett v James O'Donoghue
5. Colm Boyle v Michael Geaney
6. Keith Higgins (Sweeping/Counter attacking) v Johnny Buckey
7. Patrick Durcan v Donnacha Walsh
8. Seamus O'Shea v Anthony Maher/Jack Barry
9. Tom Parsons v David Moran
10. Lee Keegan (Sweeping/Counter attacking)
11. Aidan O'Shea v Tadgh Morley
12. Diarmuid O'Connor v Peter Crowley
13. Kevin McLoughlin (Drifting out around the middle) v Fionn Fitzgerald
14. Cillian O'Connor v Mark Griffin
15. Andy Moran v Shane Enright

Good one Joe, and presume Keegan will be marked by Murphy? Not sure if Kerry will go with that match up myself. I think our sweeper will have to be a good fetcher too. Seamus O'Shea is likely to go back there. As you suggest, that could easily be the Mayo fifteen, just a question of where the players operate.

In my, albeit limited experience, them Kerry girls are far too cute for us simple Mayo folk. Even if we did by chance get a little interbreeding going we wouldn't see the results up here for at least twenty years and I doubt if I'll be about to see it. Any chance you have any more O Shea lads you can send us up KingdomBoy or failing that we might be able to find work for O Donoghue or Geaney at fairly good rates. I'd be willing to throw in five shillings if there was a collection. I don't suppose there's any chance of a row in the Kerry camp!

Ha ha llaw we can't hold on to the players we have with the eye of the tiger on us :-)

We have an O'Shea alright, young seanie from kenmare he was last years minor captain but I doubt we'll see him play any part this year as our manager is very conservative.

Anyway I don't think many of our players would get on ye'r team maybe Paul geaney but that would be all I'd say.

The one thing I would worry about for Mayo is the ref.

Do ya think Kerry will start Donnacha Walsh and Michael Geaney, considering that their likely markers could be Paddy Durkan, Boyle or Higgins. Fitzmaurice is all too aware that Mayo would be looking to exploit this with the half-back running game. Surly he would counteract by starting Darren O'Sullivan (if fit) and Stephen O'Brien - both of these would give our half backs more to think about, and try to put us on the back foot.
