Mayo under 21 manager Pat Holmes confirmed after his side's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Kerry that star forward Aidan Campbell had been dropped for "disciplinary reasons". It is believed that Campbell, who was Mayo's man of the match in their Connacht final win over Roscommon, was axed from the side after being involved in some high-jinks in the aftermath of last Tuesday's Sigerson Cup semi-final between GMIT and Garda College in Athlone. Campbell had played for GMIT in that clash, and suffered the disappointment of his team losing out an historic final place. "It was for disciplinary reasons," Holmes explained. "It's always a difficult decision to leave somebody off a team, particularly somebody of the calibre of Aidan Campbell. "He made a poor choice during the week. He regrets it. He has suffered the consequences, but he's a good lad. It's history now and I've no doubt that Aidan Campbell will go on and play a big part in Mayo senior football in years to come." Campbell did enter the fray after 25 minutes, and despite failing to score, he made a big contribution to Mayo's second half rally. Tweet
