Mayo U-21 manager Mike Solan believes that the rivalry which has developed between his county and Dublin at senior level will have no bearing when the sides clash in the All-Ireland U-21 semi-final tomorrow.

Solan, whose brother Barry has been the strength and conditioning coach with the Mayo senior team for the past few years in addition to working with Arsenal FC, said this crop of players will carve out their own destiny.

Mayo came from behind to win their first Connacht U-21 title when they pipped Roscommon by 1-11 to 1-10 to set up the semi-final clash with Dublin in Tullamore.

"I think a lot of the stuff that has happened at senior level or any other level will have no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of the game.

"We will take this game for what it is, an All-Ireland U-21 semi-final. We will take it on its merits," said Solan.

Mayo won the All-Ireland minor title three years ago when they defeated Tyrone in the final but, again, Solan doesn't believe that has any real bearing now.

"There are changes in personnel alright, but in most cases not really much of a change in attitude. These guys, there is persistence, there is hard work just dripping out of these guys.

"Anywhere there is a bit of hard work to be done, in most cases they go looking for it. We would be very happy with the group that we have," added the Ballaghderreen clubman.
