Stephen Rochford has been officially appointed Mayo's new football manager following a county board meeting tonight.

The Crossmolina man was ratified to succeed joint managers Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly for an initial three-year term - to be reviewed annually.

The All-Ireland club winning Corofin manager was the only candidate for the position, which has been vacant for nearly two months following the controversial exit of Holmes and Connelly.

Former Armagh and Crossmaglen All-Ireland winner Tony McEntee, outgoing coach Donie Buckley and Sean Carey of Kiltane were confirmed as his three selectors.
