Cillian O'Connor update: medical experts go to work

James Horan says Cillian O'Connor's 2013 fate is in the hands of Mayo's medical experts.

The player has opted not to have surgery on his dislocated shoulder, a procedure which would definitely have ruled him out of action for the remainder of the year. Instead, he is gong through a rehabilitation process which could see the Ballintubber ace make a return to the Mayo colours later this summer.

"At the moment, he is going through the rehab protocol," Mayo boss Horan reveals in The Irish Daily Mirror. "We'll see how that works.

"If that starts to show dividends, then that's good news. I'm not sure; we're not sure.

"Cillian has started his rehab. It is with the medical experts now. He has stuff he has to do every day, so that is what he is doing. The time frame isn't clear yet.

"Barry Moran is close to being back. He is doing some running, as is Jason Doherty. Cathal Freeman and Mickey Conroy are back on the field, but Roscommon are going to be a formidable challenge."
