Diarmuid O'Connor says he wasn't surprised by the rumours whirling around that his Mayo team mate Lee Keegan had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Former Footballer of the Year Keegan was forced to refute rumours circulating around the county that he had been suffering from the long-lasting disease in an interview with the Mayo News last week.

While admitting that these particular rumours were "really bizarre", O'Connor said he has basically grown accustom to them spreading around on a weekly basis in the GAA at this stage.

"It was really bizarre and it was unfortunate wherever that rumour started from. I think it was right for Lee to clear it up just for once and for all," the Ballintubber man is quoted saying by the Irish Independent.

"You hear rumours like this every week in the GAA for whatever reasons.

"I suppose it's the same with anyone in any county. You'd hear rumours. Unless you hear them from the player themselves, you'd just brush them to one side."
