Thornton lashes County Board

September 27, 2007
Cooley manager Gary Thornton has slated the County Board in the wake of his side's county final defeat to St Patricks. Thornton had to plan for the decider without his star midfielder Sean O'Neill, who was only made available the afternoon before the big match-up between the peninsula rivals. After a lengthy saga, the former county man was only cleared to play by Leinster Council on the Saturday before the big game. Thus, the manager was unable to start him for fear of disrupting preparations. "I was absolutely disgusted with the way Sean O'Neill was treated and I was disgusted by a few top people in the County Board the way this was allowed to go on and on. "I don't want to take away from the Pats victory; it's not just sour grapes."
