Naomh Fionnbarra club notes

August 08, 2017

Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C. and St. Anne's Camogie Club Lotto is off until for the summer break and will return on August 16th.

Over 100 children attended the Naomh Fionnbarra G.F.C. Kellogs GAA Cúl Football and Hurling Camp last week.  All children had a great time practising their skills and playing games.

Naomh Fionnbarra Intermediate team had a good win in the back fixture Round 8 of the Division 2 League over Na Piarsaigh by a scoreline of 2-10(16) to 1-7(10) at Dundalk on Fridayevening.  The Finbarrs had a poor first half and were held scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the game while playing against the wind.  At the other end Na Piarssaigh had helped themselves to 1-4. A goal from Jack Butterly got the lads of the mark.  This was followed by points by Jack Butterly, Conor Osborne and a William Woods free.  Half time score:  Naomh Fionnbarra 1-3(6) Na Piarsaigh 1-4(7).

A long range free over 55m out from William Woods and a Chris McGlynn point kept the Barrs in touch.  Both teams were finding the going tough and were struggling to get any rhythm.  A moment of magic was to follow from William Woods as he blasted in a goal from 25 metres into the bottom corner of the net.  Na Piarsaigh were guilly of missing a lot of chances at the other end and the Barrs defence were doing well putting them under pressure and limiting them to only 3 points in the second half.  Another Woods point was followed by a fine effort by Padraig Butterly as the Togehr men were starting to click into gear.  The Osbornes Conor and Hugh struck for well taken scores from play to round off the scoring.  Full time score:  Naomh Fionnbarra 2-10(16) Na Piarsaigh 1-7(10).

Team: Andy McCann; Hugh McGrane, Patrick McGrane, Martin O'Neill, Chris McGlynn 0-1, Oisin McGee, Conor Lenehan; Hugh Osborne 0-1, Darren McConnon; Máirtìn Murphy, Conor Osborne 0-2, Padraig Butterly 0-1; Jack Butterly 1-1, Bernard Osborne, William Woods 1-4. Subs: Niall Woods for Martin O'Neill, Gary Matthews for Chris McGlynn, James Butterly for Oisin McGee.
