U14 div 2 b semi-final: Roche 9-11 Glyde/Western/McDermots 2-9.

Roche began well with early scores but soon the contest evened up and then swung in the visitors favour with a half time score of 2-2 to 2-9.
The resumption of the second half provided Roche with the breeze and sun on their backs. Boosted with the return to play of Niall Lennon following injury in the 1st period Roche powered away from the opposition to qualify for the Div 2B final against neighbours Kilkerley/...Malachis next Monday in Darver with a score of 9-11 to 2-9.
Scorers: Gavin Gilmore 3-3, Niall Lennon 2-5; Mark Byrne 3-1; Barry Griffin 1-0; Daire Reilly and Calum Grant a point each.
Neil McCarron had an excellent game with very good kickouts and some breathtaking saves. James McDonald and Killian McKay stoodout in an improving defensive six of Mark McArdle, Jack McKay K.McKay, James Toal, J.McDonald and Dylan Lindsey.
Killian Carroll produced a powerful and controlling display with his midfield partner Mikey McCourt putting in a strong 2nd half performance.
The forward decision of M.Byrne, D.Reilly, N.Lennon, Gabriel Cleary, G .Gilmore and Fionnan McGurk were going well until the injury to N.Lennon but excelled in the 2nd half with M.Byrne, N.Lennon and G .Gilmore impressively scoring at will with D. Reilly controlling things with an impressive range of passes and F. McGurk winning plenty of possession.
The introduction of C.Grant, B.Griffin and Oran Byrne added to Roches momentum with C.Grant being most involved in the play and B.Griffin scoring a cracking goal with his first involvement in play.
They now enter the final as under dogs but with quiet confidence of causing an upset.

Wednesday 21st June 2017

Roche Under-8 competed in the all county blitz this evening in Darver. Playing 3 matches all 20 mins long the kids were exhausted come the end and all got loads of game time in all matches. Roche played really well throughout with some brilliant link up play. Although we don't like to mention names as everyone was brilliant, a special mention to Cara and Tegan who linked up brilliantly for Tegan to score her first goal for Roche. Well done to players, mentors and supporters.

Thursday 22nd June 2017

Roche under 13's had their maiden outing for 2017 on Thursday, when we hosted St. Pats in a challenge match. They will be one of our opponents in division 2 when the competition begins on July 5th.

The match started at a very fast pace with both teams mounting attack after attack in a very keenly contested first half. Roche got into the scoring groove early and were deserving 7 point leaders at half time, on a score of 2-5 to 1-1. Five separate Roche players scored in the fir...st half, and had it not been for some great defending by the Pats we might have been further ahead at the interval. Our defense gave very little away in this first half as we turned over possession several through resolute tackling. Our kick outs were consistently responsible for setting up attacks such was the distance they traveled.

The second half started with the Pats on top, and they had wiped out our 7 point advantage within 5 minutes. From there on the game was very tight, with never more than a point or two in it. Some well taken points on both sides were a pleasure to watch.

In the last 5 minutes Pats scored the telling scores and though we fought bravely till the end we let several chances go a begging and were beaten by 4 points. Overall we were happy with our first outing, as we proved we will be competitive in division 2. We need to work on our support play, as too often we lost possession when going into contact with no passing options available. It was a pleasure to see so many of our under 12 squad playing so well in the higher age group, and gives us confidence for the campaign ahead.

U11's Roche Emmets v Sean O'Mahonys

Roche under-11's played their first home match of the season against Seán O'Mahonys on Friday evening. Roche started brilliantly and quickly raced into a 3-1 to 0-1 point lead and were controlling the game from defence right through to the forwards. In the second half O'Mahonys found their rhythm and fought back to go 6 points clear with only 3 minutes left, however 2 goals saw Roche snatch a deserved draw. Well done to both teams on a brilliantly fought game played in the right spirit.

Saturday 24th June 2017

The Roche U12 lads headed north on Saturday morning to Ballyholland. Twelve teams were entered in a very well organised tournament. The lads had 15 players in the squad which resulted in everyone getting plenty of game time.

Roche played very well in their group matches, winning three, drawing two and losing one. Their results pitched them against the hosts in the Shield semi-final. After a titantic battle, the lads in blue and white came out on the wrong side of a one point loss.

Overall, the day was a great success as these tournaments provide a great opportunity to for the lads to play more matches together.

Next up for the squad is their Division 1 match away to the Newtown Blues on Monday
