Break: The lotto is taking a break for three weeks and will return on Tuesday 16th August so there will be no newsletter, you can keep in touch with all the fixtures and results through our Facebook and Twitter pages and also our website www.oconnellsgfc.gaa.ie which covers any match reports we have.

Championship: After the result of the other game in our championship group in which the Newtown Blues beat Naomh Mairtin 2-17 to 2-13 the odds on us advancing to the quarter finals of the competition are firmly stacked against us. By my calculations we need to beat the Blues by ten points to qualify, stranger things have happened in football? No matter what happens next Sunday night it's time to put some pride back in the jersey and if we are to go out let's go with our heads held high and show a bit fight. If we do go out, there will be playoffs for us to keep our senior championship status so there is still something to play for before this season ends as well as the last games in both the division one and division five leagues.

Birthday Wishes: Poppy Malone, 1 of only 3 surviving members of The 1949 Junior 2 Championship winning team, celebrates his 90th Birthday Friday night in our clubrooms. Best wishes from all in the club.

Kelly helped Louth to claim Division 4 league honours with an impressive final win over Antrim at Croke Park. Kelly was appointed to the role in October 2014 in succession to Aidan O'Rourke.
