U 12 league

St. Mary's Ardee 4-6                              Dundalk Gaels 3-11

The Dundalk Gaels visited St. Mary's Ardee in the 4th round of the u12 league on last Tuesday 14th June. On a beautiful night for football the two sides served up a thrilling game that was abundant in work rate, commitment and no mean amount of skill.  In the initial period of the first half the visitors found it hard to deal with the powerful running of the St. Mary's midfield and it took them until midway through the half to come to terms with the pace the home team set. Some great scores in this period from the St. Mary's forward line especially their full forward which was matched by their Gaels counter parts, left the score at half time 2-8 to 2-3 for the visitors. The second half showed no decrease in the game intensity with the two sides determined to come out on the winning side. They swapped scores throughout the half and with a few minutes left the game was still in the melting pot. The Gaels defence where their goalkeeper Preston Keatings quick kick outs added to their attacking options and where Jack Mullen, Christopher Clark, Luke Conlon and Daniel Brogan did extremely well against a mobile St. Mary's forward unit. In midfield Conaill O' Callaghan (0-1) and Oran Mulligan competed well against strong opposition. Up front the Gaels were well served by their full forward line where Oisin Woods (1-2) excelled, ably assisted by Ryan Coleman and their high scoring mobile half forward line of Ciaran Walsh (1-3) and Liam O'Connor (1-4) with the assistance of the ball winning ability of Cian Walsh (0-2).There was also valuable contributions from Conor Weir, James Haughey and Adam Burke for the Gaels when they were introduced. The St. Mary's team were strong throughout the park and in the end the Gaels prevailed by two points but in truth the result could have gone either way.  A big clap for both teams for a hard fought encounter.
