Naomh Fionnbarra's Jack Butterly

There was disappointment for Naomh Fionnbarra in the Leinster Junior Football Championship as they lost out away to Longford champions, St Brigids Kilashee on a scoreline of 0-11 to 2-4.

The Barrs were made pay for a very slow start and to add to the disappointment of the Ballygassan side, they almost snatched victory only to see an extra-time goal disallowed.

St Brigids got off to a brilliant start and with 20 minutes on the clock they went eight points to no score ahead.

However, the Finbarrs were given hope when Allan Matthews made a great save and seconds later Jack Butterly had the ball in the net as they cut the gap to 0-8 to 1-2 at the break.

A second goal from Butterly tied the game up at 2-3 to 0-9 before a William Woods point had the Barrs leading entering the closing minutes.

Unfortunately the Louth men were unable to hold out St Brigids struck two late points to secure the win.

Jack Butterly thought he had won the game when he fisted to the net but the goal was disallowed.
