April 14, 2014
Clan Na Gael's JJ Quigley
Clan na Gael carried their fine Sheelan Cup form into the Division 2 League as they got off the mark with a 4-9 to 1-4 win over St Brides on Friday night.
An early goal from Mark McGeown was cancelled out by a Paddy Reilly penalty, but further three-pointers from McGeown and JJ Quigley had the Clans 3-3 to 1-3 ahead at the break.
Sub Billy Smith wrapped up victory with a second half goal.
Alan McCartney kicked a late equaliser to claim a 1-7 to 0-10 draw for Na Piarsaigh against St Marys at the Rock Road on Thursday night.
The accurate kicking of Darren Clarke had the Marys in front in the first half but a goal from David Boyle cut the gap to 0-7 to 1-3 at the break.
The teams traded points in a low-scoring second half before McCartney had the final say to secure a share of the spoils.
Oliver Plunketts made it a winning return to Division 2 when they were 2-9 to 0-8 winners over St Mochtas.
It was looking good for the Louth Village men as they led by 0-4 to 0-3 at the break despite playing against the wind.
However, the Plunketts dominated the second half and goals from Rory Taaffe and David McTeggart helped secure a deserved victory.
St Fechins hit back from an interval deficit to score a 4-12 to 2-4 win over Glyde Rangers at Tallanstown.
The home side had the wind in the first half and goals from Ciaran Sheridan and Ciaran Brennan helped them lead by 2-4 to 1-3 at the break, with James Devereaux getting the Fechins goal.
Glyde failed to raise a flag in the second half as two goals from Ronan Holcroft sealed a comfortable win.
Hunterstown Rovers maintained their fine form from last season as they came out on top by 3-13 to 1-8 against St Josephs, with full forward Ryan Burns adding to his reputation with a personal tally of 1-9.
Rovers had all but secured the points by half time as goals from Alan Landy, Brendan Lennon and Burns sent them in at the break leading by 3-8 to 0-2.
The Joes rasied their game after the break and Conall O'Hanlon struck a goal but a comeback was never on the cards as Hunterstown held out for a comfortable win.
In the remaining game in Division 2, Dundalk Young Irelands recorded a 3-11 to 1-9 win over Roche Emmets.
