Naomh Fionnbarra's Andy McCann.
The Division 3 League campaign began with two of the title contenders, Naomh Fionnbarra and Naomh Malachi, meeting at John Markey Park where the home side came out on top by a single point.

The Malachis had the better of the first half and were leading by 0-6 to 0-3 at the break and just after the restart, a Ronan McElroy goal had his side six in front.

However, an excellent goal from William Woods and an impressive display by Andy McCann, sparked a Finbarrs revival that saw them score a 1-10 to 1-9 win.

Another of the contenders, Glen Emmets, had a much less eventful afternoon as they scored a facile 4-16 to 1-2 win over St Nicholas at Tullyallen.

Eamonn Mullen and Keith Lynch had goals before the break to put their side 2-9 to 0-1 in front, while Keith Rooney and Keith Boylan found the net after the break to complete the win.

Sean McDermotts are another side with ambitions of getting up to Division 2 and they also recorded an opening day win despite being made fight all the way by Wolfe Tones.

The Seans needed goals from David McArdle and Lorcan Ludden to go in at the break leading by 2-4 to 0-7 with Gideon Lugoye leading the fight for the Tones.

McArdle added a second goal just after the restart to extend the advantage before a late goal from sub Brendan McGahon completed a 4-15 to 0-14 win for the Mountrush men.

The Westerns were the first team to claim a victory in the Division as they proved too strong for Dowdallshill on Thursday night.

Tommy Durnin was the star of the show as he finished with a total of 2-7 to inspire victory.

Goals from Johnny Lynch and Ciaran Campbell, in response to a fine goal from Paul Gill, helped the Reaghstown men overturn an early deficit to lead by 2-6 to 1-3 at the break.

Meanwhile, Stabannon Parnells also got off to a winning start against a Cuchulainn Gaels side playing their first ever Division 3 game as they came out on top by 2-11 to 0-7.

A goal from Daniel Bannon just before the break followed by another three-pointer from Aonghus Giggins early in the second half saw the Parnells on their way to victory.

St Kevins put their disappointing league form behind them when they scored a 1-8 to 1-4 win over John Mitchels at Philipstown.

The home side were leading by 0-5 to 0-3 at the break and an Andrew Campbell goal in the second half helped seal the win.
