Louth Camogie and LGFA are on a collision course over the scheduling of league fixtures in the county.

Louth LGFA voted to move their adult league games from Sundays to Friday nights last week, meaning they will clash directly with adult league camogie fixtures. The decision was reached “without any prior discussion or collaboration”, according to Louth Camogie who are urging their ladies football counterparts to “immediately engage in constructive discussions with Louth Camogie to find a solution that works for both parties.”

In a social media post, Louth Camogie said: “On Thursday, February 8th, 2024, Louth Ladies LGFA county board voted to move senior league games from Sundays to Friday nights. This decision was made without any prior discussion or collaboration with Louth Camogie, despite their repeated requests for meetings with both the LGFA fixtures committee and the county board chairperson.

“Louth Camogie Chairperson, Martha Reilly, was invited to present her concerns at the meeting before the vote but received an email three hours later confirming the change, stating that "clubs voted to move from Sunday to Friday evenings for Adult League Games."

“This decision is a major blow for Louth Camogie, both at club and county level. It will likely negatively impact attendance, participation, and overall development of the sport. Additionally, there are concerns about the potential impact on other age group fixtures.

“We urge Louth LGFA to immediately engage in constructive discussions with Louth Camogie to find a solution that works for both parties. Several viable options exist, such as alternating Friday and Sunday games or scheduling games on different weekends. We welcome Louth LGFA to engage with Louth Camogie to find a resolution as a matter of urgency.”
