A late point from Stephen Fisher gave Sean O’Mahonys a share of the spoils in their Senior Championship Group 3 encounter at St Brigid’s Park on Saturday night.

The result means that the Clogherhead men have secured a place in the quarter-finals and they will be joined by the O’Mahonys if the Point Road men avoid defeat in the final group game with old rivals, St Patricks.

The game started as it finished – with a point from Kilcoyne before Conor Finnegan doubled the lead. The Dreadnots were back on terms through Jay Hughes and Pepe Smith and that set the pattern for much of the game.

The Dundalk side did restore their lead through Kilcoyne, but the second quarter belonged to the Dreadnots and with Smith, James Califf, Hughes all on target they went in at the break with a 0-7 to 0-4 advantage.

The O’Mahonys fought back to level at eight points apiece, but the Dreadnots always appeared to have a slight edge and with Smith and Hughes continuing to cause problems they moved into a 0-12 to 0-10 lead entering injury-time.

However, the O’Mahonys once again showed their battling qualities and a Ben McLaughlin point gave them hope before Kilcoyne landed the equaliser.
