DREADNOTS 2-9

SEAN O'MAHONYS 0-9

Dreadnots are safely through to the quarter-finals of the Louth Senior Championship after another solid display saw them defeat Sean O'Mahonys at The Grove on Sunday night.

Goals from Liam Shevlin and Peter Kirwan at the start of the second half proved decisive as the Clogherhead side followed up their victory over St Marys in the opening round.

The game began with the Dundalk side twice taking the lead through Conor Finnegan and Ben McLaughlin only for Kirwan and Shevlin to level on each occasion. Pepe Smith put the Dreadnots ahead for the first time on 16 minutes and from that stage his side always appeared to be in control.

The O'Mahonys cause wasn't helped by the loss of Stephen Fisher to a Black Card and by half-time the Dreadnots had eased into a 0-7 to 0-3 lead with Cathal Lynch among the scorers. Stephen Kilcoyne replied for the Seans.

The game was put beyond doubt in the opening eight minutes of the second half as Kirwan and Shevlin found the net to stretch the lead to ten points.

There was no way back for the Dundak men and the Dreadnots could afford to add just two further points to their tally through James Califf and Shevlin and still win comfortably. Johnny Connolly, Kilcoyne and Finnegan pointed for the O'Mahonys but it was never going to be enough to rescue the game.
