FL3 round-up: Young Irelands hit Parnells for six

Young Irelands moved two points clear at the top of Division 3 thanks to a comprehensive 6-14 to 0-6 win at home to Stabannon Parnells on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Mark Savage, Aidan Sheeky, Dermot Mone and Peter McStravick had the Dundalk side leading by 4-9 to 0-3 at half time, with Aonghus Giggins (2) and Colm Giggins on target for Parnells.

The Young Irelands didn't have to exert themselves in the second half as they completed the victory with McStravick and Jordan O'Donoghue adding goals in the second half. Aonghus Giggins and Daniel Bannon completed the scoring for Stabannon.

Na Piarsaigh remain just two points behind Young Irelands but with a game in hand after defeating fellow challenges, St Kevins, by 2-16 to 2-4 at the Rock Road.

The hosts were always on top in this game and at the break had built up a 0-11 to 1-2 lead and their fine team performance was rewarded as they went on to win by 12 points.

Eamonn McAuley and Alan McCartney found the net for the winners while Cian Callan and Paul Duffy replied with goals for the Kevins.

Lannleire bounced back from their first defeat of the season as they scored a 2-10 to 1-7 win away to John Mitchels.

A well-taken goal from John Gallagher on 21 minutes helped the home side to lead by 1-4 to 0-5 at half time, with Killian Gregory scoring two points for the Dunleer men.

Barry Kirk extended the lead early in the second half but Lannleire hit back to move ahead at the end of the third quarter with Bob Murphy and Gregory on target The visitors then completed the victory with goals from Gary Monaghan and Colin Murphy.

Nh Malachi saw their good recent run of form come to an end when they lost out to the Westerns on a 1-12 to 1-10 scoreline in Reaghstown.

Ciaran Campbell continued his good spell in front of goal as he bagged 1-2, while Tommy Durnin weighed in with five points, and Conor Kerr struck a brace.

Dowdallshill picked up their first win of the season when they scored a 2-10 to 0-9 win over St Nicholas in Drogheda.

Gerry Mc Shane, making his comeback from injury, made a triumphant return, bagging 2-3 for the winners, while Noel Finnegan's five-point salvo was also a major factor in the victory.

The Hill led by 2-6 to 0-3 at the break and although the Nicks fought back in the second half with Kevin Walsh and Philip Kirwan on target but it wasn't enough to deny Dowdallshill victory.

In the remaining game in Division 3, Wolfe Tones made it two wins in five days when they defeated Sean McDermotts by 1-10 to 1-9 in Mountrush.
