Sympathy: Dromard GAA extends its sympathy to the Family of the late Canon Brian McNamara who died on the 11th of October 2017 in Florencecourt, Co. Fermanagh. Fr Brian was a well-known and liked Priest in this area having served as Parish Priest in Arva from 1973 to 1983 and in 1977 accompanied our touring party on their ground-breaking trip to the USA. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Leinster Club Championship Semi Final: Saturday last saw our Senior Panel take their final bow in this year's Leinster Junior Championship. Another home tie gave another great day out in our own parish, where unfortunately we were to come up short against Clann Na nGael, the Meath champions from Athboy. Everybody would agree that to still be playing competitive matches in mid October in the Leinster Championship was the icing on the cake for these girls and could barely be dreamt about back in January. With all the hrd work put in this year, it came as no surprise when they found themselves in the Intermediate County Final a year later. To have won that final and brought the whole of Dromard one step away from a Leinster Final was truly inspirational. Not only did it give a big lift to all the people who rowed in behind them and gave of their time and energy in playing their part, but with so many young players on that team being looked after and encouraged by the older girls it has fuelled ambition in our underage panels who turned out in droves to support and dream of what might be for them if they work hard at their game.

In fairness our visitors were worthy of their win and we wish them well in their final against Cuala of Dublin, but the never say die attitude of the panel was a joy to see and a lesson to be passed on to those underage girls watching. We never give up the fight whatever the obstacles until the final whistle. Well done to them all and to Elaine, Francis and their backroom team and thank you for a memorable year in 2017.

Match Report: We got off to a perfect start with Becky Maguire pointing after 2 mins, and after Clann n anGael levelled in the 7th min, Becky gave us the lead again after 10 mins gone. Unfortunately from that point on our visitors clicked into top gear adding 2 goals (one a penalty) and 6 points to leave them up 11 points up at halfway. The girls came out determined not to lose the second half as well as the first, and this they achieved scoring 2 penalties and 2 points whilst holding their opponents to 8 points. Final Score: Dromard 2-04 Clann nan Gael 2-15. Team: Michelle Kilkenny, Shauna Hagan, Niamh Cooke, Karen Mcloughlin, Shauna O'Reilly, Ellen Murphy, Sarah Murphy, Sarah Reynolds, Mairead Reynolds, Cait Murphy, Doireann Mimnagh (capt), Michelle McManus (2 pens), Becky Maguire(0-4), Imelda Reynolds, Helen Conefrey. Subs Chloe Connell, Alanah Reilly, Aoife Grimes, Kathy Farrell, Clodagh Duffy and Emma Bleakley. Laura McManus and Laura Bleakley who both togged out all season but were injured.

Minor Championship: Due to the Dromard involvement in Leinster our amalgamated panel with Colmcille have yet to kick a ball in this year's competition. However we should be able to get underway this Sunday and girls will be informed of opponents and venue as soon as we receive notice from County Board who have been very understanding of our situation.

Birthday Congratulations: To 2 members of our u/10s Maeve Reynolds who turns 10 and Kara Duffy who will be 7 this week and is very proud of big sister Clodagh making the Senior Panel at 15 yrs old.
