Dromard club notes

October 09, 2017

Monthly Members Draw: Congratulations to the following winners of the Club's monthly draw for September 2017: Josephine Hagan (€500) and €100 each to Raymond Taaffe, Noel Reynolds and Joe O'Reilly (Dublin). Thank you to all our members for your continued support.

Longford County Finals: Congratulations to Mullinalaghta St Columbas on the magnificent achievement of winning back-to-back Longford county titles on Sunday. Commiserations to Abbeylara. Well done to Emmet Óg Killoe on their victory in the minor final.

Leitrim and Cavan County Finals: Congratulations to former Fr Manning Gaels and Longford player Padraic Davis and his management team who guided Mohill to success in the Leitrim County Final. Well done to Cavan Gaels manager Jason O'Reilly on that club's win in the Cavan County final, also played on Sunday.

Leinster Championship Action: Best of luck to the Dromard ladies panel and their management team of Elaine Sheridan and Francis Murphy in the Leinster Club Football Championship semi final next weekend. The game will be played in Páirc na nGael on Saturday or Sunday (14/15 October) with the details to be finalised later this week. Dromard's victory in the quarter final a fortnight ago - also played at Páirc na nGael - was a tremendous occasion and we ask all our supporters to come out in force again this weekend.

Fundraising event and Sponsored walk: Abbeylara GAA are holding a 5K fun run/walk on Sunday 15th October 2017 at 12.30pm from the Handball Alley in Abbeylara. There will also be a cake sale (before the run/walk) and a family fun day (after the run). The aim of the event is to help raise funds for Laura O'Connor, wife of Abbeylara and former Longford footballer Arthur O'Connor, who is undergoing treatment for illness. Please help support this fundraiser for Laura and Archie O'Connor's treatment appeal. There is an online gofundme page and sponsorship cards can also be printed online.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Leinster Club Championship Semi Final:  At time of writing, we are awaiting a decision as to whether the match will be played this Saturday or Sunday. What we do know now is that the game will be played at home in Páirc na nGael and that our opponents will be the Meath champions Clann na nGael from Athboy who defeated the Carlow Champions Bennykerry Tinryland on a scoreline of 3-17 to 3-08 on Sunday last. So with our own Ladies firing on all cylinders there should be a high scoring match in prospect for the spectators. Once again we are asking everybody to come out and support us in Páirc na nGael. You all make such a difference when the going gets tough and rest assured we will be giving our utmost on the pitch to bring you all to a Leinster Final. As soon as we know the arrangements, we will text out to everyone to spread the word. Dromard Abu.

Minor Championship: Unfortunately due to most of the Dromard girls in our amalgamation with Colmcille being involved in Leinster with their own club we found it difficult to field in this 15 a side competition. Although we made the journey to Clonguish,we came up short on numbers, and we thank them for agreeing a refixture under the circumstances, instead of claiming the points on offer. They too are involved in their own Leinster Semi-Final at the weekend so at least they and the Dromard girls who play on their respective Senior Panels remain injury free. We wish their Senior Panel Good Luck as they take on the St.Maurs club from Dublin.

U/14 Summer League: After a break of 7 weeks this Final was eventually played at the neutral grounds of Clonguish. It seemed as if the long break affected our girls more than the Grattans girls. We found it very difficult to get any rhythm into our play and Grattans ran out deserved winners. The biggest positive to come from the game was the fact that we only lose 3 girls from this panel for next year, so hopefully the girls will see this as a rehearsal for next season. Well done to them for their effort and commitment throughout the season and hopefully the pizza and chips at the homecoming that evening helped ease the pain of falling at the last hurdle.

Birthday Congratulations: To Lauren Holloway from our U/16 Panel who turns 15 on Friday.
