Dromard Club Notes

July 27, 2015

Lotto draw for 20th July: There was no jackpot winner this week. €20 draw winners were Jim Giblin, Alan McNerney, Eamon Mulligan and Sean O'Reilly. The sellers prize went to Kevin Hourican. Next week's jackpot now stands at €7,400.
Sympathy: The club extends its sympathy to the Doyle family and to Bernard  Smith and the Smith family, Fyhora, on the recent passing of Bridie Doyle, Gortermone.

Senior Championship: Dromard 3-15 Ballymahon 1-8. Well done to the senior team who secured their second win in the group stages of this year's championship on Sunday last against Ballymahon. During a tight first half, Dromard struggled to break down a determined Ballymahon defence with some loose passing also a feature of the game during the early stages. After Ballymahon had opened up a two point lead, Dromard worked their way slowly into the game and went in level at half time on a scoreline of 5 points apiece. The second half saw a much improved performance by Dromard. A breakthrough came eight minutes into the second half when the alert James Martin blocked down a Ballymahon clearance to score an important goal, putting some daylight between the teams for the first time in the game. Further goals by Cian Mimnagh (2) along with points by substitute Pauric Martin (3), Declan Mimnagh and  Ross McNerney saw Dromard extend their lead by the final whistle. In the next round, Dromard were drawn to play Killoe in two week's time. The Dromard line-out from Sunday was as follows: Gavin McNerney, Enda Kiernan, John Sheridan, Paul McGee, Emmet Masterson, Ross McNerney, Niall Vance, Diarmuid Masterson, Ronan McEntire, Kevin Donohoe, James Martin, Bernard Sheridan, Declan Mimnagh, Cian Mimnagh, Peter Reynolds. Subs: Padraig Martin, James Mimnagh, Michael Reilly.
Junior Championship: Dromard 3-6 Mostrim 2-9.  Dromard began their junior championship campaign with a hard-earned draw against Mostrim on Sunday in Pairc na nGael. This proved to be an entertaining encounter despite the very wet and windy conditions. Mostrim started the game in style and led by 1-2 to no score after ten minutes with Dromard struggling to get a foothold in the game. Eventually Dromard began to win more possession around midfield and got off the mark with a pointed free by Peter Mimnagh in the tenth minute, after great work by Brian McCormack to initially win possession. In an excellent 15 minute period, Dromard  scored 1-4 without reply with the goal coming from Gary Maguire. The same player was on target again just before half time with a well-finished goal that saw Dromard open up a 6 point lead. Mostrim fought back strongly after half-time and a deflected goal and points from play and frees saw the visitors edge ahead by two points. A Donal Conefrey goal with ten minutes to play put Dromard into the lead again but Mostrim drew level soon after with the last score of the game. This was a very encouraging performance and gives the team plenty to build on for the rest of the competition. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Noel Reynolds who was unable to take to the field on Sunday. We hope to see Noel back in action for Dromard in the near future. Team: Oisin Hourican, Ronan Smith, Cathal Conefrey, James Conefrey, Brendan McLoughlin, Padraig McNerney, Alan McLoughlin, Neil Cosgrove, Martin McGee, Fergal Berry, Gary Maguire, Peadar Kiernan, Peter Mimnagh, Brian McCormack, John McNaboe. Subs: Donal Conefrey, Jimmy Kiernan.
