Sheedy calls for performance

Longford manager Jack Sheedy

Jack Sheedy says Longford should have enough for Carlow if they perform to the level they are capable of.

But the former Dublin midfielder won't take the Barrowsiders for granted in Saturday's SF Qualifier at Pearse Park.

"Carlow had a decent league campaign and played a lot of good football," he notes in The Longford Leader. "They are a big strong team with a lot of mobile guys on it. They won't be overawed or sit back against us, and will feel they have a chance of making further progress.

"If we produce a good performance, we will have a big chance of winning but the attitude must be right. Most of the young lads have been exposed to senior championship football now. This is the next step along the line for them.

"We know we can play good football but the difficulty for us in the second part of the season has been injuries. That has had a big impact on us. In fairness, all the guys that have stepped in to replace the guys that are injured have all performed well. I'm very happy in that regard.

"If we perform to the level that we are capable of, then we can win the game. If we don't, then Carlow could beat us. Therefore, we have to be right mentally and performance-wise."
