Longford hurling manager Ray Gavin says promotion is vital for his team.

The midlanders face Warwickshire in the Division 3B final on Saturday, having finished top of the league table, and their manager says they have to go out and finish the job at Ratoath:

"We have to get up into Division 3A to be really able to compete in the Nicky Rackard Cup," the Westmeath man told The Longford Leader. "We should be in it but we cannot be getting carried away.

"We just have to take it one game at a time. I would be hopeful that we can win the league final on Saturday.

"We cannot afford to be complacent. Both myself and Paddy [Walsh] have been around the block and we lost more finals than we won. We will take nothing for granted, but the lads have a belief there and know they are good enough."
