Dromard club notes

March 10, 2015

Presentation Night: This Saturday night the 14th of March will be a very special night for the clubs players and supporters.  Dromard GAA along with Dromard Ladies GFC will be hosting a Presentation Night in The Breffni Arms Hotel, Arvagh, to present the Senior League Division 1 winners, and the Ladies Junior Championship winners, with their medals.  We invite all club members and supporters to join us as we celebrate the success of 2014 and pay tribute to the dedication and hard work that was put in, both on and off the pitch, by all members of both clubs. It promises to be a great night with a buffet style dinner, followed by tea/coffee and dessert.  Presentation of the medals to both panels will then be followed by music from Peter Masterson and DJ Black Steel. There will also be a raffle with a number of exceptional spot prizes and a few surprises on the night. There will also be a very reasonable €10 charge on the door. It's important that the night gets off to an 8pm start so please be there before that time. We look forward to seeing players from all panels, past and present, as well as club members and supporters to cheer and honour these winning teams and celebrate with them on the night.

Lotto:  Lotto Results for Monday 2nd of March 2015. The numbers drawn were 2, 14, 19, & 30. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Tom Bermingham, Tony Galligan, Laurence Pike and Mary Kane.  The seller's prize was won by Damien Sheridan.

County U21 Football:  Congrats to Ross McNerney on his excellent contribution to Longford u21s victory over Louth last Wednesday night in Newtowncashel. This victory propels this team to a Leinster Semi-Final meeting with reigning Leinster and All Ireland champions Dublin. The big game takes place next Wednesday night 18th of March in Páirc Tailteann, Navan, at 7.30pm, and we wish Ross and his team mates all the best in this mouth-watering encounter.

Reserve League 1: Dromard 1-6 v Fr. Manning Geals 1-9. We opened the 2015 season when we played our neighbours in a tight game in a wet and windy Mondaduff on Saturday night last.  Dromard gave a very good account of themselves and took the game to the opposition throughout the hour. We started strong and held the lead for the first quarter, but over the next two quarters the Geals kept the scoreboard ticking over and after scoring a well taken goal they and went into a 5 point lead early in the second half. However, Dromard kept working hard and pulled the game back to a two point gap after a well taken goal of our own by Gary Maguire, stup by Niall Vance who had moved to full Forward to great effect. At this stage we were unlucky on several occasions not to put more scores on the board, indeed the end result probably wasn't a fair reflection of the effort that this team put in. Lack of accuracy in front of the posts, giving away vital yardage through indiscipline, plus the unavailability of a number of players all contrived to cost us the points on this occasion. Having said that, it was a very hard working performance throughout and if they have a full squad at their disposal this will be a team that will be in the final shake up. Great to see Conor Duffy back in the ranks this year after his extensive travels.  We have a bye in the next round of this competition, but hope to have a challenge game organised for the Div 3 panel that start their season with an away game the following weekend.

County Seniors Football:  Well done to Longford seniors on achieving victory over Waterford in the 4th round of the national league on Sunday last thus keeping themselves in pole position for promotion. In what turned out to be a hard fought victory, Longford were pushed all the way by Waterford at Pearse Park but McGee's contribution of 1-4 proved vital. Longford have joined fellow midlands Offaly on seven points at the top of Division 4.  Again congrats to our Dromard representatives who did their club proud, namely Francis McGee, Diarmuid Masterson who was a commanding figure at number 6, and Ronan McEntire who won great possession from his left half forward position. Next up its Wicklow in Aughrim on this Sunday the 15th in Round 5 at 2pm. A win here is crucial in the push for promotion so best wishes to all concerned.

Congrats on County U15 & U16 Development Squads: Congrats to Dylan Mc Cormack who has made the County U16 football squad for 2016, and also to Joseph Hagan, Luke McEntire and Ronan Bleakley who have made the County U15 panel.
