Gavin's eye is on March 1st

Longford hurling manager Ray Gavin says all roads lead to the league opener against Warwickshire on March 1st.

The midlanders open their Kehoe Cup campaign at home to Louth this Sunday but the new boss is looking further ahead:

"The preparation for the league actually started before Christmas," the Westmeath native told The Longford Leader.

"Our target is the 1st of March against Warwickshire but we are using the Kehoe Cup as a chance to look at players. I'm hoping that games will bring players out.

"It's great to have games like this before we go into the league campaign.

"I'm trying to get lads, both young and old, to start thinking like a county player. We have been training hard and have had good sessions, doing a lot of ball work."
