Dromard GAA Club Notes

September 15, 2014

Senior Championship: We say well done to our Senior team and management on giving a gallant performance in the senior championship semi-final v Killoe on Sunday week last. Having found themselves 2-01 in arrears after the first 7 minutes they fought hard to recover and finished the first half 3 points ahead on a score line 2-10 to 2-07. However they were unable to sustain the pressure against a very strong Killoe team who went on to register a further 11 points in second half and win the game 2-18 to 2-15. We would like to thank the team and all involved with team for all the hard work and dedication this season. We would also like to thank the Killoe team for a good sporting game and we wish them the best of luck in the county final.

Division 1 League: Next fixture in the Division 1 league is against Clonguish at 6pm in Allen Park on Saturday next 20th September.
Ladies: Congratulations to the Ladies team who won the Junior championship County final against Longford Slashers on Saturday last in Pearse Park. Well done to the team management of Nicky O'Hara and Paul McEntire and the panel of dedicated girls. Plenty of celebrating on Saturday night!!!

Under 16's: Congratulations to Dromard/Drumlish U16 Team in reaching the 13-a-side Championship Final, with an excellent win over Northern Gales last week on a score line of 0-12 to 1-5. Well done to all involved. The opposition in the final will be Southern Gaels and we appeal for plenty of support for them on Friday next at 6:45pm in Monaduff, Drumlish.

Mobile Cardiac Screening Unit:  Much media attention has been focused in recent years on the number of cases of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) among young apparently healthy people in Ireland, many of them actively involved in sports. Approx 2 young people (under 35) die each week in Ireland from SADS. Research has shown that cardiac screening can help prevent these untimely deaths. To raise awareness and to address this problem, the GAA has teamed up with Heartaid, a cork based company, (www.heartaid.ie ) that provides cardiac screening to schools & sports club across Ireland. It is ultimately aimed at reducing the incidents of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and promoting a healthier lifestyle. To facilitate our players and members availing of this screening, our club has arranged for the mobile Cardiac Screening Unit to attend the clubhouse at Pairc nanGael on Saturday 20th September 2014. The clinic will be open all-day from 9.30am-4.45pm. Each screening will take 20-25 minutes. For full details of how to arrange an appointment please visit our club website www.dromard.longford.gaa.ie

Kick Fada: Congratulations to our senior club and county goalkeeper, Damien Sheridan who once again won the Kick Fada competition which was held at Bray Emmets GAA Club on Saturday last. This is Damien's fourth time to win the competition and his third year in succession. He won the completion with a kick of 75 meters, equalling the record which he had set last year. This is a tremendous honour for Damien and for his club and county.
