It looks as though Longford GAA will be able to develop a Centre of Excellence after all after a deal was reached with its main sponsors Glennon Brothers.

The Longford-based timber company has offered the county board a 99-year lease on a site within the grounds of Carrigglas Manor Estate, which it recently purchased. The agreement is subject to planning permission being received.

Welcoming the news, which comes 12 months after plans to develop a €3 million training facility in Killashee were scrapped on financial grounds, Longford chairman Brendan Gilmore said in the Longford Leader: "It's absolutely fabulous to get this venue. It's good for Longford.

"There will be four pitches - including a 3G all-weather pitch - along with dressing rooms and a gym. Our clubs are well equipped, but this facility will allow county players to train in a facility of their own."

Longford GAA plans to sell the 41-acre site in Killashee, which was purchased at a cost of €400,000 as part of the original plan, in the near future.
