Clonguish need to bounce back against Slashers

July 25, 2014
Clonguish could be staring at an early exit from the Connolly Cup race if they fail to get a result against Longford Slashers in Ballinalee on Sunday evening.

The Newtownforbes-based club suffered a 0-10 to 0-13 defeat to Dromard in the opening round last weekend and need to get back to winning ways against Slashers in what is a repeat of the 2011 county final. The champions opened their campaign with a resounding 4-9 to 0-9 win over Fr Manning Gaels.

In the weekend's other round two ties, Dromard will be expected to make it two wins from two at the expense of Abbeylara. Mullinalaghta, who recorded a 2-8 to 0-9 victory over Abbeylara in the first round, should be too strong for Ballymahon, while Fr Manning Gaels are fancied to see off Ardagh.

Fresh from their 2-16 to 0-7 win over Mostrim, Killoe Emmet Og are tipped to continue their march to the quarter-finals by beating Granard.

The draw for round three of the SFC will be made on Sunday night.
