Longford manager Padraic Davis has been encouraged by the newcomers introduced to the side.

A second win of the O’Byrne Cup sees the Midlanders head into the Christmas break on a high, but more importantly for Davis, the performance of some new players has been very pleasing for him.

“It’s encouraging to see all those young lads getting a run. They are hungry, which is the most encouraging thing of all, and I think our experienced players are hungry also. So far so good,” Davis told the Longford Leader.

“We feel as a group we are in a good place; the real test I suppose is those first three National League matches which all our focus is on. Along the way if we can pick up wins, that’s pleasing. To be in the O’Byrne Cup semi-final gives us another competitive game.

“We have taken these lads straight out of the U20 squad from last year. They have proven that they can play at this level.”
