Dromard club notes

September 17, 2018

Sympathy: Dromard GAA extends its sympathy to the Duffy family on the death of Jimmy Duffy, Aughaga, whose funeral took place on Tuesday. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Senior Championship: Dromard 1-7 Clonguish 2-9. In the quarter-final replay, our senior team was defeated by Clonguish at Pearse Park on Sunday evening. Dromard held the upper hand in the first half, with two points apiece by Francis McGee and Joseph Hagan and a well-finished goal by Cian Mimnagh after 20 minutes giving Dromard a 1-4 to 1-1 lead at the break. Clonguish were the better side in the second half and made more effective use of a strong breeze. To their credit, Dromard battled hard to stay in contention and points by Francis McGee, James Martin and a third for Joseph Hagan kept Dromard in touch, however Clonguish scored with greater regularity and finished strongly to claim a deserved win. Best of luck to them in the remainder of the championship. This draws the curtain on the season for our senior team. The Club would like to thank our committed panel of players for their efforts all year. Thank you to manager Sean Hagan, selectors Con McLoughlin and Cathal Conefrey, trainer Aidan McCarron, along with Danny O’Toole, Thomas Donohoe, Danny Petit, Gerry Sheridan, Paul Hourican and everyone involved in the backroom team for their work and dedication all year in preparing the team. Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Underage Training: Well done to all the girls who came training on Saturdays all summer, and a special well done to all our new recruits. Hope to see everybody back in the spring. We hope you all liked your new training tops which were given out on Saturday last. If anybody has missed out due to attending County Development training, or appearing in u12 mixed final in Pearse Park contact Imelda and she will get them to you.

Under12s: Well done to Naoise, Meadhbh, Tara, Elena and Lauren who have been playing with the boy's team as well as togging out for Ladies u12 and u14 teams. They reaped their reward for their commitment when the mixed team saw off the challenge of Wolfe Tones in Pearse Park last Sat afternoon to win the Div 2 plate 2-10 to 1-5.

Minors: After putting in a big effort on Tuesdays at training, this group start their Championship on Sunday with a home game v Ballymore. With help from our u16s and u14s stepping up to ensure we are able to field, we now hope for our supporters to turn out in large numbers to encourage them.

Church Gate Collection: Thanks to everybody for their generosity at the Church Gates in Moyne on Saturday and Legga on Sunday. We always appreciate the support you all give us and hope we manage to repay you on the football field with our efforts every year.

Clothes Collection: Today (Wednesday) is the last chance to leave your bags of unwanted clothes, bedding, towels, footwear etc .into the clubhouse or to Moyne Stores as the lorry will be collecting first thing from both locations. Again, we can only thank you for your support.

Holiday: This correspondent will be away for the next 4 issues, but with Minor Championship beginning, what better person to take on the job than one of those players, who will have first-hand knowledge when reporting. So well done Aoife Grimes for taking on the task, and I am sure she will make an excellent job of it. If their are any items of Ladies News anybody has to contribute please give to Aoife by the previous Sunday so she can include it in the following week's notes.
