St Patrick's G.A.A. Club was saddened at the recent death of our vice President Brendan Tobin who gave 80 year's service to the club. In 1937 when a mere 14 year old he was a member of St Patrick's minor hurling team (under18). Also in 1937 he was a member of the St Patrick's under 16 hurling team that won the City and County titles. The team included Matt O Connell, Jim Carroll, Kevin Cunneen, Kevin Hartigan, Terry Allen, Josie Buckley, Mick Moynihan, Jim Crowe and Toddy O Brien. In 1938 Brendan was a members of the St Patrick's under 16 hurling team that reached the final only to lose narrowly to Young Ireland, Brendan and his team mates that included Paddy O Keeffe, Tom Hartigan, Brian Day, Alfie Bennett, the Collopy's brothers Paddy and Donal were gracious in defeat. In 1939 St Patrick's reached the City minor hurling and football finals. In the Autumn of 1941 the club organised a 7 a side tournament. The victorious team was Brendan Tobin, Paddy Collopy, Donal Collopy, Micky Kiely, Terry Allan and Willie Hughes. In 1942 Brendan won Gleeson and Kerryman cup medals (football). Towler Holman, Bertie McSweeney and Tom McMahon. Considerations to space and time make it impossible to list the many other achievments of Brendan with St Patrick's suffice to say that he has the unique distinction of winning 5 County senior championship medals with the club two senior hurling 1949 & 1950. Three senior football 1943,1944 & 1954. The names of the players who won county senior medals with Brendan are recorded forever in the photographs on display in the club pavilion. In 1956 Brendan was a member of the St Patrick's team that won the City junior football title. During a short period working in New York Brendan played with the Limerick team in New York. When his playing days were over Brendan continued his involvement with the club and like Jack Sheehan and many others gave a lifetime of service to the club.
