JUVENILE CLUB NEWS

AGM The Juvenile Board AGM will take place at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, 25th November at the Clubhouse.  We would like to see as many people as possible at this meeting as we are always keen to receive suggestions from parents as we review 2015 and look forward to 2016.

Australian Visit. On December 6th and 7th Monaleen will be hosting a touring party of U16 Australian Rules footballers. This is their third visit to Monaleen and it has always been a great visit of friendship, sporting action and late-night sing-songs in the Club. More details next week.

U13 Hurling. Last Sunday our U12/13 squad visited Ballina GAA for a challenge game. On a pitch in great condition we played a 15 aside game from a squad of 16 hurlers (Caimin Hannon, Conor Carew, Conor Yelverton, Declan Aylward, Donnacha O'Dálaigh, Dylan Crowe, Eoin Dignam, Eric Stritch, Gavin Hayes, Liam Dillon, Lochlann McHale, Max Ivory, Nicky O'Dwyer, Noel Clancy, Ronan Lyons (C), Ryan Power). It took time for our team to settle after some early goal bound runs by skilful Ballina players which demanded waves of heavy defending by our backs. When the game settled it became mainly nip and tuck with each side scoring point for point for most of the play. In the second half we gained momentum to take some great scores and a penalty. We finished the game 2-14 to 1-7.  Outstanding on the day was Donnacha who scored more than half our tally after receiving good ball from his hardworking teammates. Eric played in the unusual position of midfield to backfill an injured Eoghan O'Driscoll and played a very influential role in play.  Ronan, Nicky and ConorC continue to form a resilient diamond of defence with Lochlann and Eoin brilliantly cleaning up breaking ball. Forwards Max and Noel did a great job on the wings, with Dylan working his socks off in the corner before picking up an unfortunate hand injury on half-time.  Gavin and Ryan continue to play well in the middle forwards with Liam and Caimin supporting them. ConorY had his best game this season in corner back. Our goalie Declan had great presence of mind to clear incoming ball into tactical positions. Well done to all players on both sides for a sporting game. We will welcome Ballina for a return game in Spring. Our busy year has now come to a close and we will resume training and games in early February. Well done everyone on a great year and we look forward to a successful 2016.

11 Hurling (2004s): A mixture of our u10's & u11's squads were invited out to Ballinacurra Gaels to play a challenge game last Saturday. On a cold and wet afternoon both teams put in very good performances with some great scores seen during the course of the game. Some of the younger U-10 players showed great skill in really difficult conditions and are definitely Monaleen stars of the future. Squad: Aidan Williams, Leon McMahon, Darragh Clifford, Darragh Langan, Oisin Meehan, Ben Murnane, Muiris O'Dalaigh, Mark Field, Tom D'Arcy, Evan Lacey, Luke Ryan & Bryan Toland. Next game is against Ballina u-11's on Wednesday night in UL at 7.30pm.
Training has now finished for the winter break until the first Sunday in February. Thanks to all the parents for their support over the last twelve months.

U-11 Football: Best of luck to all the Monaleen GAA players playing in the U-13 County Schools final this week when Milford take on Lisnagry.
