SENIOR HURLERS

Our senior hurlers qualified for another Munster club final following a battling performance in difficult conditions against Tipperary Champions Thurles Sarsfields in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.
Following the recent tragedy in the Thurles camp it was expected that a very determined opponent would be waiting for us and this was surely the case.
We opened the scoring through a Shane Dowling pointed free but it was Thurles who forged an early lead and led 5 points to 2 before we got our first score from play from Kevin Ryan.
We carved our first goal chance when a powerful run by William O Donoghue created a chance for David Dempsey who just failed to get the decisive strike on goal.
We did however get some good scores from Alan Dempsey(2), Shane Dowling(2 frees)and Peter Casey to bring our first half tally to 9 points.
A brilliant save by net minder Podge Kennedy from Lar Corbett on the stroke of half time sent us in at the break trailing 0-12 to 0-9.
We began the second half with a significant breeze at our backs and had a point inside 30 seconds from Kevin Downes.
We were in front minutes later when Kevin Ryan pointed and then came the first goal when Peter Casey crashed brilliantly to the roof of the net after he weaved his way goalwards from a right angle on the endline.Game on.
However as expected back came Thurles and with 10 minutes to go the teams were level.
We began to exert our dominance and big performances by Alan Dempsey, William O Donoghue, Kieran Kennedy, Mike Casey and Kevin Ryan really gave the foothold in the game we required.
Captain Cathall King showed great leadership chipping in with a big point with just over 5 minutes left to give us the lead.
We had some other good opportunities to increase our lead but failed to find the target.
What a score to win the game when a towering catch by Mike Casey who took off on a solo run as the space opened up before popping a pass to fellow All Ireland winning under 21 David Dempsey who rifled to the net to give us an all important 4 point cushion.
Try as they may Thurles sought the all important goal but with the defence superbly marshalled by Kieran Breen and Ronan Lynch we were not to be denied.
A truly workmanlike performance full of composure and no little skill and determination and an unbeaten run in the Munster club campaigns to date. Final Score: Na Piarsaigh 2-15 Thurles Sarsfields 0-17
We now face Waterford champions Ballygunner in the Munster Final next Sunday in Thurles at 2pm
Team: Podge Kennedy, Michael Casey, Kieran Breen, Kieran Kennedy, Michael Foley, Ronan Lynch, Cathall King (capt 0-1), Alan Dempsey(0-2), William O Donoghue, David Dempsey(1-1), Shane Dowling(0-7f), Kevin Ryan(0-2), Adrian Breen, Kevin Downes(0-1), Peter Casey(1-1).
