The Horse & Hound Bar Mulgrave St City junior A Football Championship Final was played last Monday night in Rhebogue. Monaleen and Kildimo-Pallaskenry were the contestants and credit to both teams for playing under lights and to St Patricks in making their splendid facilities available. Kildimo-Pallaskenry started without the influential Peter Nash but they had Barry O'Connell back in their ranks fresh from the County U-21 success. The football game developed into a stalemate game of keeping possession in the first half and it was no surprise that the half time score was Kildimo-Pallaskenry 0-3 to Monaleen 0-1. The amount of movement and the general possession game adopted by both sides showed that they had been drilled very well and that they were more than comfortable on the ball at all times. Despite the low scoring the game was entertaining from a spectator point of view. The second half saw Kildimo-Pallaskenry exert their domination on proceedings and they duly extended their lead midway through this period of play. The key moment saw Conor Staff find the Monaleen net and this score proved decisive and the game eventually concluded with Kildimo-Pallaskenry winning by 1-7 to 0-2. Scorers Monaleen Pat O'Kane 0-1, Muiris Gavin 0-1. Kildimo-Pallaskenry Conor Staff 1-2, Eoin Cuddihy 0-1, Tom O'Shea 0-1, Martin Nunan 0-1, Tony McCarthy 0-1, Darren O'Connell 0-1. The victorious Kildimo-Pallaskenry team captain Mossy Sheehan was presented with the trophy after the game.

The Replay of the Patsy Nicholas Bar Gerald Griffin Street City junior A Hurling Championship Final between Na Piarsaigh and St Patricks took place last Saturday evening in the Gaelic Grounds at 5pm. With both sides having competed in the county Junior A Hurling Quarter Finals last weekend it was particularly hard for St Patricks to get themselves together for this replay having lost to Doon six days earlier.. The game started with two points from Evan Egan for Na Piarsaigh But the Saints replied with points from Brendan Mullins and Cyril Hamilton. Evan Egan had a further point from a free before their midfield maestro Gordon found space to deliver to Eoin Hogan to blast to the Saints net. Robert Sheehan extended the Na Piarsaigh lead before Gearoid Hegarty pointed to reduce the deficit for St Patricks. Brendan Mullins and Evan Egan swapped points before Mullins raced through the Na Piarsaigh defence to fire an unstoppable shot to the net. Tony Kett reduced the margin with a point for the Saints before pat McCarthy had a goal for Na Piarsaigh. Gearoid Hegarty (0-1) and Brendan Mullins (0-2) traded points Gordon Brown (0-2) to leave the Half time score 2-8 to 1-8 in favour of the Caherdavin side.

The second half saw Na Piarsaigh take control of the game early on and with Gordon Brown (0-2), Evan Egan (0-2), Robert Sheehan (0-1) 7 Dylan Cronin (0-1) the gap extended to nine points and the Caherdavin side seemed to be on their way to a rather comfortable victory. St Patricks to their credit tried awfully hard to reduce the gap and were unlucky on a few occasions not to raise a green flag. Gearoid Hegarty (0-3), John Mullane (0-1) & Andrew Hannigan (0-1) were scorers for St Patricks but these were cancelled out by points from Evan Egan (0-2), Paul McNamara (0-1), Eoin Keogh (0-1) & Pat McCarthy (0-1) to leave the full time score Na Piarsaigh 2-19 to St Patricks 1-13. City Board Chairman Jim O'Riordan presented the Sweet Afton Cup to Victorious Na Piarsaigh Captain Brian Hartnett.

On Sunday morning last Ballybrown and Crecora played the final of the DJ Daly team flag Ireland Pallaskenry Junior B football championship in Kildimo. With Kildimo-Pallaskenry having won this competition last year these two sides were hoping to emulate that feat and hopefully have a crack at the County title as Kildimo-Pallaskenry did so successfully. Ballybrown were very slow to start in this encounter and found themselves three points down inside the first ten minutes with two pointed frees from Crecora full forward Mike O'Neill, and a point from play from Darren Scully. Ballybrown got off the mark with a point from the industrious Mike Kiely but they were guilty of some sloppy defending and with a tendency to foul by the Ballybrown rearguard resulted in a Crecora point from a free by O'Neill. Adrian Roberts (0-2), Mike Kiely (0-1) and James Hall (0-1) had Ballybrown justifiably ahead at the interval by 0-5 to 0-4 for Crecora. Both sides were guilty of missing opportunities and despite a lot of movement from the players the spectators were anticipating an improved performance from the teams in the second half. Crecora started quickly and the teams were level again with a pointed free by O'Neill. This game had play ebbing and flowing from end to end and when Ballybrown went ahead with points from a James Hall free and a point from Mike Kiely it seemed that the day might be theirs. Crecora had other ideas and once again a pointed free by their chief scorer Mike O'Neill had the teams level. Both sides went all out for the victory but a defensive blunder by Ballybrown allowed Mike O'Neill to score again this only his sides second score from play in the entire game to leave them a point to the good. Crecora dominated the final minutes and had an opportunity to kill off the game but they wasted a chance when one on one with only the Ballybrown keeper to beat. Ballybrown can thank their Keeper Pa Lyons who made a number of fine saves to keep his side in contention throughout the game, Kevin Foster was tenacious and would have secured the man of the match performance. For Crecora it was evident that they had put in a lot of effort in their preparations and were deserving of their victory. They has seven points from the boot of Mike O'Neill but it was in no way a one man as each and every player gave their all. City Board Secretary and proud Crecora man Mr Sean Burke presented the cup to the Crecora captain Tim Moloney.
