CAMOGIE CLUB NEWS
Wednesday 19th August. We played a friendly match Wednesday evening against a big strong Bruff side who had played a good few challenge matches during the summer. We decided to play 3 x 15 minute periods and Bruff put us under early pressure hitting quick ball into their forwards and despite super defending from the girls Bruff ended the first period ahead by 2 goals and 1 point to no score.
We started the 2nd period much better & got more into the game and after putting a lot of pressure on the Bruff defence we scored some well worked goals and a super point by battling hard and making some great tackles to go in after the 2nd period level at 2-1 to 2-1.
The 3rd period was end to end and both teams had chances, Bruff scored a goal but then Monaleen scored a goal and a couple of points to win a very tight match by 3-3 to 3-1. A very good battling performance against a team with some very good players who liked to solo every time they got the chance. Big thanks to our U11 players who helped us on the night, Ella Mc Carthy & Amy Burke.

Team: Aoife O'Brien, Bella Collins, Caoimhe McInerney, Ella O'Halloran, Ellie Madden, Eve McCarthy, Faye Coffey, Grace Field, Isabelle O'Riordan, Niamh Twomey, Sarah Burke, Ella Mc Carthy & Amy Burke.

Saturday 22th August. We played Ballina from Tipperary on a beautiful warm Saturday morning. We played 3 x 15 minute periods and early exchanges were fairly even with both teams pulling hard at every opportunity. Ballina had a couple of changes in the first few minutes but found the Monaleen defence in excellent form with Aoife, Bella, Niamh clearing ball after ball and always looking to win our own puck outs as well as Ballina`s to set up attacks

Our midfield players won all their battles and Ella, Kim, Ellie and Grace sent plenty of good ball into the forwards and denied Ballina any foothold in the game. All the girls were fully committed and tried hard to be first to every ball and tacked fearlessly the whole match.

With all the good ball coming into the forwards it was only a matter of time before we opened the scoring and Katie sent over a beauty to start the scoring with a point. From then on we were the better team for the remainder of the game with sisters Sarah and Amy Burke totally dominant in the forward line, Katie helping out with great runs and Caoimhe always looking dangerous around the goals.

There were some super goals scored and we ran out comfortable winners 9-1 to no score and only for loads of super saves from the Ballina goalies we would have won by a lot more. The hand passing we displayed to find team mates in better positions was brilliant on the day as well as the first time ground hurling and a great morning of hurling was had by all. Thanks to Ballina for their hospitality on the day, all the girls enjoyed the crisps and drinks after the game.

Team: Aoife O'Brien, Bella Collins, Caoimhe McInerney, Ella O'Halloran, Ellie Madden, Grace Field, Katie Sheehan, Kim Ivory, Niamh Twomey, Sarah Burke, Amy Burke.
