Rathkeale GAA notes

July 21, 2015

Rathkeale enjoy an impressive week in Junior A Hurling Championship
Rathkeale took 3 points from 4 in their two Championship outings over the last 6 days. Last Thursday evening we played Adare in Askeaton where only a win would suffice if we were to have any chance of progressing into the business end of Championship. The boys in blue responded to the challenge and enjoyed a fine win. As the old saying goes "Goals win matches" and this was certainly the case with Shane Hourigan firing 2-1 and Damien Quaid hitting 1-02. Further points from Martin Roche 0-02, Eoghan O'Connor 0-01, Gearoid Mulcaire 0-01 and Darren Jones 0-01 put the game beyond Adare and ensured a good victory for Rathkeale on a scoreline of 3-08 to 1-07.

Three days later our hurlers were out again, this time Rathkeale took on Templeglantine on Sunday evening in Newcastle West. In what was an entertaining game of hurling Rathkeale enjoyed a 5 point lead at the break, leading on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-8. The all important goal came from Eoghan O'Connor on the 14th minute. The second half was as entertaining as the first, with Templeglantine now a lot more dominant than they had been and they eventually levelled the game with a very late goal. Rathkeale will feel disappointed having missed many opportunities to have increased their lead throughout the game and also with the concession of the late goal. Final score was Rathkeale 1-15, Templeglantine 1-15. Scorers on the night for Rathkeale - Damien Quaid 0-12, Eoghan O'Connor 1-00, Mikey Morrissey 0-02, Darren Jones 0-01.

Rathkeale now top the group however with two matches remaining with Templantine to play Monagea and Kileedy to play Adare means that it is still all to play for. Having said all that we are in a very strong position to finish in the top three so a quarter final spot should be secure as a minimum. Well done to all involved to date!

Senior Footballers
Our senior footballers Played Na Piarsaigh in Div-1 of the county league in the Bog Garden on Tuesday 30th June. After a close and exciting game we were eventually beaten 2-11 to 2-09. This result leaves us in the lower half of the table but with 2 back matches to play, we still have a chance to improve on that position.

Senior Football Championship
Preparations are on-going for our next championship game against Ballylanders on the weekend of 9th August and our final group game against Monaleen on the weekend of 30th August. We are at the bottom of the table currently but wins in our remaining games would still see us qualify for the knockout stages. Still all to play for!!.

The minor hurling championship involving the combined Granagh/Ballingarry & Rathkeale resumes this Tuesday night when we play St Kierans in the Bog Garden at 7.30pm. Your support will be welcome.
