Senior Footballers enjoy fine Championship win.

Our footballers got off the mark with their first win in the Senior Championship of 2015 last Friday night in Clarina. After a heavy defeat in their opening match to St Patricks it was difficult to foresee such an impressive performance. On what was a messy enough night for football Rathkeale began brightly with the aid of a strong wind. Eoin O'Donnell opened the scoring with a fantastic point of his left foot after good build up play. Eoghan O'Connor showed no signs of the good life out in the States, and after five minutes pointed after good play. Pallasgreen pulled a point back but for the next 15 minutes Rathkeale dominated with further points from Andrew White, Mikey Morrissey and Kevin Shanahan. During this purple patch Sean Sheahan had a great chance for goal with Rathkeale hitting on the break but fired narrowly wide. For the remaining 5-10 minutes of the first half Pallasgreen closed the gap with pointed frees and one from play leaving the halftime score 7 points to 4 in Rathkeale's favour. Was a three point lead enough after all our dominance, only time would tell?

After a stern half time team talk Rathkeale came storming out of the blocks. After a good passage of play between Sheahan & O'Donnell, Kevin Shanahan found himself with only the goalie to beat and he certainly took the opportunity firing to the top corner. Further points from O'Connor off his left and right extended Rathkeale's lead before Shanahan found the net for a second time after a fantastic turn from Eoin O'Donnell. Further frees from Mark O'Sullivan and Mikey Morrissey put the game beyond Pallasgreen and it was a case of playing out the last 15 minutes. If our forwards were impressive our midfield and defense were equally resolute with impressive performances from Timmy Hogan, Patrick Sheahan, Enright, Stackpoole, Quaid, Jones & Sean O'Shea. They limited Pallasgreen to shooting frees from distance offering little chances for goal attempts. Overall the players and management will be pleased with the display and we can look forward to the Drom/Broadford game with optimism. Final score Rathkeale 2-11, Pallasgreen 0-11.

Hurlers suffer heavy defeat to neighbours
Our hurlers suffered their second defeat to the hands of Croagh  in the West Junior A Hurling League last Monday night. Having already lost to Adare this was a must win game if we had any chances of advancing to the latter stages of the league. Unfortunately things didn't go our way on the night and we went down heavily on a scoreline of 5-21 to 0-07 in Croagh's favour. Next game will be away to Crecora on Tuesday May 19th at 7.30pm

Mackey Cup
Evan Barrett and Patrick Johnson represented St. Joseph's Boys National School, Rathkeale and Limerick West schools in the 2015 Mackey (hurling) Cup held in U.L. last week. However, luck was not on their side as they were beaten in the semi-final by Limerick East schools. The East went on to beat the City in the final. Evan had also represented St. Josephs BNS and the West in the 2014 Sarsfield (football) cup. The West emerged as champions in that competition, defeating the East in the final.

Our U12 hurlers were well beaten by a very strong Ballybrown team last week.

Cul CampThe Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camp will run from Monday20th July to Friday 24th  July from 10.00am to 2.30pm in the bog.  Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps provide boys and girls  with an action-packed and fun-filled week of activity during the summer holidays which revolves around maximising enjoyment and sustaining participant involvement in Gaelic Games. Attendance is open to primary school children aged 6 years to 13 years. Cost €55 per child, 2nd Child €45, 3rd & 4th Child €40. Bookings and further details: www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie
